Charlotte Keates
Charlotte Keates was born in 1990 in Somerset, UK. She studied Fine Art at Falmouth University in Cornwall, graduating in 2013. In 2018 she was a finalist of the Threadneedle Prize in the UK.
Keates is known for her acrylic and oil paintings of interiors. Drawing inspiration from technical blueprint, architectural drawing and found polaroid slides the spaces Keates paints recall the interior design trends of the 1960s and 1970s, whilst also incorporating surreal elements such as floating staircases and the interference of the natural world. Created from a combination of the artist’s memory and imagination, her paintings, which are never populated by a human presence, encourage the viewer to situate themselves within the depicted space.
Keates has exhibited widely in the UK and overseas, including Arusha Gallery, Edinburgh; London, Miami and Stockholm.
Charlotte Keates lives and works in Guernsey, UK. She will exhibit at Cristea Roberts Gallery for the first time in 2021 as part of the exhibition Just what is it…?.
