Alan Cristea: “I first visited Georg’s studio in Bavaria in 2018, soon after we had been approached to act as his print publisher. The gallery had the privilege of working with Georg over the next decade. An extraordinary and compulsive printmaker, he produced a body of graphic work annually. This output represented his commitment to a medium that endured to the very end, as important as painting, drawing, and sculpture. We exhibited his work in five exhibitions over the past eight years: his final triumphs as a printmaker.

In his last months, he refused to call time on his creative practice, and his continuous experiments on the etching plate saw the artist produce some of his most accomplished images.

Georg will be remembered as one of our generation's most inventive and influential artists, remaining wholly individual to the end. He will be greatly missed by everyone at the gallery. Our thoughts are with his wife, Elke, their sons, Daniel Blau and Anton Kern, and the wider family and studio team.”
