Gillian Ayres

New Prints and Monotypes

The Alan Cristea Gallery will be exhibiting a new body of printed work by the renowned British artist, Gillian Ayres, which is also the gallery's first publishing project with Ayres.

Started last year with Jack Shirreff at 107 Workshop, this is the first publishing project that the gallery has completed with Ayres. The focus was initially a series of three multi-coloured carborundum etchings. Using these editions as the central theme, Ayres was given free rein to create a number of hand coloured and reworked versions taken from the original plate.

The exhibition will contain nine new editions and a number of unique hand painted images. The resulting works combine both her natural affinity for colour with a willingness to expand on the possibilities that etching and carborundum offer.
