Gillian Ayres

Hand-Painted Prints

The Alan Cristea Gallery will be exhibiting a new body of printed work by the British artist, Gillian Ayres. Working with Jack Shirreff at the 107 Workshop in Wiltshire, Ayres has produced a new series of six multi-coloured carborundum etchings. Using these editions as the central theme, she has also created a number of extensively hand coloured and reworked unique versions, each taken from the original plate.

The exhibition will feature these new editions and monotypes, as well as a selection of other recent prints. The resulting works combine both her natural affinity for colour with a willingness to expand on the possibilities that etching and carborundum offer.

The exhibition will run concurrently with a show of her recent paintings at Gimpel Fils and coincides with the release of Mel Gooding's new monograph on the artist, published by Lund Humphries.
