Julian Opie

Walking, Dancing, Undressing, Smoking

The Alan Cristea Gallery is holding a major exhibition of new work by Julian Opie. The exhibition will include a wide variety of imagery and media including LED's, LCD's, computer animations, digital scrolls, films, lambda prints, screenprints and lenticular editions.

Having previously presented twenty-first century versions of classic art historical genres such as 'Still Life', 'Landscape' and 'Seascape', Opie is now using a vast array of modern technology to create contemporary interpretations of the nude, the portrait and the human figure in motion. The works in the exhibition are distinctive and unmistakably his and yet are clearly set within an art historical lineage which encompasses artists as diverse as Muybridge, Duchamp, Boccioni and Utamaro. The latter's influence is most in evidence in a limited edition signed and numbered artist's book of portraits, which will be launched at the exhibition.
