Line Etchings

Featuring Milton Avery, Jim Dine, Barry Flanagan, Richard Hamilton, David Inshaw, Henri Matisse, Robert Motherwell, Bruce Nauman, Ben Nicholson, Mimmo Paladino, Pablo Picasso and William Turnball

To coincide with the Whitechapel Gallery, London, exhibition Drawing the Line, we are staging an exhibition of pure line etchings by three generations of twentieth century artists, concentrating on the most classical form of etching - no shading, no colour, no aquatint, spit bite etc.

The exhibition began with Matisse's first recorded print and includes some of the most famous line etchings by Picasso as well as Matisse. It then moves on via Milton Avery to the generation of Ben Nicholson, Robert Motherwell, and William Turnbull. It will include examples of line etchings by Pop artists such as Jim Dine and Richard Hamilton and conclude with prints by a younger generation such as Barry Flanagan, Bruce Nauman and Mimmo Paladino.
