Howard Hodgkin Into the Woods
Howard Hodgkin: Into the Woods offers a detailed illustration of the artist’s series of four monumental hand-painted etchings. These artworks mark Hodgkin’s return to printmaking following a hiatus after his notable Venetian Views series made in 1995. Each carborundum etching, larger than most of his paintings, reflects Hodgkin’s artistic imagination through the coalescence of his painterly and printmaking practices; resulting in richly colourful artworks that emanate a sense of renewed vitality.
The four prints, which invoke the four seasons, take their title from a Stephen Sondheim musical. The publication includes a preface by Alan Cristea as well as fold-out reproductions and detailed views of the four etchings.
