Jim Dine Poet Singing

"Correcting and erasing are important tools, for my poems and my drawings."

Poet Singing focuses on a body of work made by Jim Dine with master printmakers in Austria, Paris and the US, that highlights Dine’s status as a renowned poet, as well as painter and printmaker. Dine has been composing, performing and publishing poetry for as long as he has been making art – since the mid-1950s, when he first encountered the poetry of Dylan Thomas.

The reflection of the self in his singing poets is also echoed other works throughout the book, prints depicting bathrobes and hearts, and large-scale depictions of Pinocchio, stemming from Dine’s continued interest in Carlo Collodi’s classic morality tale, The Adventures of Pinocchio. The publictaion is completed with a body of work that encompasses a more abstract aesthetic.

Poet Singing features a text by the artist entitled My Poetry Biography and illustrations of over thirty works, each one created using multiple plates, extensive physical intervention and additional hand work by the artist.
