Georg Baselitz Hands
This publication focuses on two series of prints by Georg Baselitz that explore the subject of the hand. Estranged from the body, the hands, some a delicate depiction of the artist’s own appendage, writhe and twist across the pages, others emerge from dark backgrounds, hovering close to abstraction.
This series of renderings form part of Baselitz’s ongoing survey of the human form, which has been at the forefront of his practice since the 1960s. The publication features an introduction by co-director David Cleaton-Roberts and an essay by psychoanalyst and author, Darian Leader, which explores the subject of Baselitz’s uncanny bodily and painterly gestures.
