Michael Craig-Martin

Past Present
This Autumn we are delighted to present an exhibition of new work by Michael Craig-Martin.

Michael Craig-Martin (b. 1941), one of the most influential artists and teachers of his generation, has developed a distinctive style over the past 50 years through the compilation of a whole vocabulary of objects realised through a variety of media including painting, sculpture, drawing, printing and animations.

For the first part of his new exhibition, entitled Past Present, Craig-Martin has turned his attention to art from the past. Over 15 prints by the artist pay homage to some of his favourite artists and artworks, including paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, Piero della Francesca, Georges Seurat, Caravaggio and Diego Velázquez.

The second part of Past Present will feature new prints which take as their subject matter everyday objects. This includes three new prints depicting musical instruments, grouped together according to genre; classic, jazz and rock. Craig-Martin renders these in his own distinctive style.
