Eva Rothschild
Eva Rothschild was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1971, and studied Fine Art at the University of Ulster, Belfast from 1990-1993, before completing her MA in Fine Art at Goldsmith’s College, London in 1999.
Rothschild is best known for sculptural works and major public outdoor commissions spanning the UK, Ireland, and USA. As a sculptor, Rothschild uses printmaking to experiment with colour, gradation and shape. Interested by the illusionistic qualities of sculpture, Rothschild creates screenprints that are energetic and directional, seeming to extend beyond the two-dimensional plane.
In 2019 Rothschild represented Ireland at the 58th International Art Exhibition, La Biennale de Venezia with the major solo show The Shrinking Universe, which later toured nationally in Ireland. The artist’s work has also been the subject of several institutional solo shows including the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (2018); Dublin City Gallery, Dublin (2014); Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas (2012); The Hepworth Wakefield, Wakefield (2011); Kunsthalle Zürich, Zürich (2004).
Recent public commissions include Double Rainbow, The Central Bank of Ireland, Dublin (2022); My World and Your World, The King’s Cross Project, London (2020); forthcoming projects in Stratford, London are due for completion in 2024.
Eva Rothschild's works are held by major public collections including: MoMA, New York; Arts Council of England; Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin; Tate; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis.
In 2019 the artist was awarded the 13th Robert Jacobsen Prize for sculpture. Since 2014, Rothschild is an elected RA, Royal Academy of Arts, London and was also made Professor of Sculpture at the Royal Academy schools in 2024.
Eva Rothschild lives and works in London.
