Lubna Chowdhary
Lubna Chowdhary was born in Tanzania in 1964 to Pakistani parents and moved to England in 1970. She received her BA from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1988 and an MA from the Royal College of Art in 1991.
Throughout her practice, Chowdhary bridges the disciplines of ceramics, architecture, craft and most recently printmaking, to address a longstanding preoccupation with material culture. Chowdhary's work thrives on relationships between diverse historical references, visual languages, materials and modes of production. Through experiments in aesthetic hybridity, her work negotiates cross-cultural narratives of modernity. She had her first solo exhibition at the Commonwealth Institute, London in 1993.
In 2024 Chowdhary presented a solo exhibition at Graves Gallery, Sheffield, unveiling work from residencies at Mahler & Lewitt Studios in Italy and in India.
